How to find below-market rentals on Rentable

Finding below-market housing doesn't have to be hard. It is why we built Rentable, to bring everything together in one place, and we're pleased to be able to help you discover communities across BC in a simple search.

Housing availabilityBy RentablePublished October 25, 2026

A Vancouver one-bedroom averaged $1,807 a month in October 2025, according to the CMHC Rental Market Survey, and you can search below-market rentals priced under a local average like that on Rentable. Our collection of communities keeps growing across British Columbia, and this is the only affordable housing search where you check what you actually qualify for and then look at the homes that would match.

It is for you when market rent is more than you can comfortably pay, or more than you want to pay.

Where to search below-market rentals

You can search by city or region from the Search area fields on Rentable, you'll find one on the homepage and at the top of our navigation on every page on the website. Or, you open the location pages directly.

Each location page page lists all of the below-market communities we have in that area. Each one shows the location, a short description, the amenities, the type of homes, and who they are best for, with the provider's Rentable profile and a way to get in touch.

Start with Vancouver, Burnaby, or Victoria when you already know which city you want to live in, and you'll see the communities listed on Rentable. Open Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, Thompson Okanagan, or Vancouver Island if you're not totally sure which city you want, or if you're interested in browsing across a wider area, because a region page brings together the communities from the cities inside it.

What a community listing page tells you

Communities are buildings, or a collection of homes managed or built together. A community listing page will show you how many homes it has and which bedroom sizes are available. We have researched as many market statistics as possible, so on many areas in BC we will be able to provide the city's average rent beside a 10% and 20% below calculation from that average. You use those figures to get an estimate of what the rent pricing could be and decide whether you should contact the provider. But note - it is always best to ask with them in any case.

The type of affordable housing names the kind of housing, including a below-market rental or rent-geared-to-income, and the description is where that is spelled out. When the provider has added them, amenities such as laundry, parking, or an elevator are listed on the page. Photos and a map show the building and where it is, which helps when you are comparing several communities in the same city.

In Vancouver, 20% under the one-bedroom average of $1,807 is about $1,446 a month, and a community page makes that comparison for the city you opened. The provider confirms the actual rent when you ask about a vacancy.

How to contact the housing provider

Each listed community has an official website for the housing provider, so you can learn more and make contact about any vacancies. If there are no vacancies on Rentable, contact the provider to check. You can read the provider's linked Rentable profile to see where they operate, what other communities and buildings they might have, and who they best serve.

How listing alerts work

A listing alert is an email we send when a listing is published that matches the cities or regions and the bedroom sizes you chose. You can pick up to five cities or regions, and up to four bedroom sizes, from a studio, a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom, a three-bedroom, or four or more bedrooms.

After you sign up for listing alerts and confirm your address, we email you when a published listing matches those choices.

Search Vancouver, Burnaby, or Victoria, then open a community and contact the provider from the page. Sign up for listing alerts for the cities and bedroom sizes you want, and take the quiz to see what you qualify for.
